International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day!

Today, we celebrate women all over the world, while we continue to advocate and create awareness for equal rights and opportunities.

We’re doing something really special this time around and would love for you to join us. As part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day which calls for improved gender parity in all spheres of life, we have launched the #PurpleLipsChallenge to empower disadvantaged young girls in schools across Nigeria with free sanitary products.

According to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), one in ten girls in Sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their menstrual cycle. By some estimates, this equals as much as 20% of a given school year. If girls are missing from classrooms while they’re on their period, then that deprives them of getting a quality education which will, in turn, limit their capacity to actively contribute to society in the long run.

Through the #PurpleLipsChallenge we want to change the narrative by encouraging women to post a picture of themselves on social media wearing purple lipstick. For every picture posted from March 8th – 21st 2019, Avon HMO will be empowering a young girl with reusable sanitary products.

How to Participate

·       Post picture of yourself wearing a purple lipstick on Twitter/Instagram.

·       Tag @avonhmo; use #PurpleLipsChallenge, #balanceforbetter in your caption and follow us!

·       For each post, a disadvantaged girl in school will receive a free pack of sanitary products.

The more entries we get, the more girls we can empower so join us in touching a life today!
