You likely know the familiar expression, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
While the phrase appeared to have been coined in 1913, it was actually based on a Pembrokeshire proverb that originated in 1866: “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.” Interesting stuff.

Apples are highly nutritious and have been associated with several health benefits, including improved heart health and a reduced risk of certain types of cancer. They may not be a magic fruit that prevents all illnesses but you’re definitely healthier when you eat them.
